We at the ATTA extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Myanmar following the devastating earthquake that has caused immense loss and suffering. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy. We recognize the courage and resilience of the communities facing this crisis. Below are a few ways our community is coming together to help; if your organization is doing something or has a message to share please email it to [email protected].
Message from EXO Travel:
The earthquake that struck on 28 March was felt across much of Southeast Asia, prompting headlines around the region. While neighbouring countries have largely returned to normal, communities in Myanmar are facing immense loss and destruction, with the true scale of the disaster still unfolding.
Entire villages have been destroyed. Homes, schools, hospitals and infrastructure have collapsed. Thousands of families have lost everything, many are injured, missing or displaced. We don’t yet know the full extent of the damage, and the road to recovery will be long. What we do know is that people need help now.
To provide immediate and meaningful assistance, we are launching a call for donations to support local relief and recovery efforts. Thanks to our long-standing presence in the country, we will act quickly and efficiently through trusted local partners.
Our team on the ground is actively assessing the most urgent needs on the ground and will oversee the distribution of funds to ensure transparency, effectiveness and direct impact.
Every donation, no matter the size, can help. Funds will support our local partners in delivering emergency supplies, food, clean water, temporary shelter and longer-term rebuilding initiatives for affected communities.
Message from Intrepid Travel:
Intrepid Travel has launched an emergency appeal through its not-for-profit, The Intrepid Foundation, following the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake, which struck Myanmar on March 28, 2025. The earthquake has caused widespread damage across the country and parts of Thailand, and all funds raised will go directly towards providing medical support and aid to communities through Intrepid’s trusted local NGO partner in Myanmar. The Intrepid Foundation will match all donations up to $100,000 AUD.
Initial reports indicate that hundreds of people have been killed, with thousands more missing and the death toll expected to rise. Homes, businesses and schools have been destroyed and with roads blocked and communications down, emergency responders are working to get critical resources into the worst-impacted areas. Donations to the appeal will provide medical support and aid to impacted communities in Myanmar.
Biheng Zhang, General Manager of The Intrepid Foundation commented:
“The impact of the earthquake in Myanmar is severe. After years of ongoing civil war in the region, this earthquake proves devastating for the people and communities who were already facing a humanitarian crisis. Although Intrepid does not currently run trips in Myanmar, the country continues to hold a special place in our heart. I appeal to the global travelling community – who may have been to Myanmar in the past or who have simply visited the region. Your support at these times can bring critical aid to the thousands of families at a time they need it the most.”
The most significant impacts of the earthquake were felt in Myanmar and Intrepid's trips in neighbouring Thailand continue to run. Intrepid has confirmed that all its staff and customers in Thailand are safe and accounted for.
Intrepid halted all trips to Myanmar in 2020 and does not currently operate in the country. It strongly condemns the ongoing violence and human rights abuses in Myanmar and any future decisions to resume operations in Myanmar will be based on the safety of travellers, staff and local communities.
